In remembrance of an injured golden stray cat

1 Yawns

A STRAY CAT'S PRAYER

(Maud Christie)

Dear Lord, it is so wet and drear,
The icy wind is beating round
The archway where a carter here
Has dropped some straw upon the ground.

I curl in tight against the cold
And wash the leg that got a kick,
I used to be so spruce of old,
But now I have no strength to lick.

In some dim way I think I knew,
A gentle hand that stroked my head,
And spoke kind loving words and true
And made a warm and cozy bed

And laid down plates of milk and meat
Before a warm and glowing fire.
Today I only had to eat
A fish-head lying in the mire.

I am a little frightened, Lord,
The world is very cruel and wild,
You love the little children, Lord,
I also am your loving child.

Father of all the tiny things
(The fallen sparrow in their plight
Are sheltered by your heavenly wings
Care for a little cat tonight.

STRAY(Anon)
My life is hard, my cupboard bare,
I wander here, I wander there,
And oft I forage in a bin,
But no kind soul will ask me in.
To feel 'belonged' by only thought,
But all my wishes come to naught.

THE STRAY(W Mustoe)
He is battered and ugly, has fought in many battles,
And apparently lost them all - nobody wants him,
Nobody cares if a car reduces him
To a wet grey pulp to be cleared away and forgotten.
He is eternally wary, eternally hungry,
But food must be left in some anonymous corner,
Caresses repel him. Anything on two legs
Is hated and feared. Quite naturally of course,
He associates them with curses and kicks and stones.
I could weep for him. I cannot communicate -
The lines have vanished. To a cat, as to any creature,
A kindness may come too late - one kick too late.

Neighbour's puppies are terrorizing the strays at my backyard. The cat next to to the pointed one is injured. Eyes filled with pus, barely respond to me anymore.

Cats

0 Yawns
Now everybody loves cats, don't we? I enjoy having throngs of cats following me everywhere I go. This including a new set of cats young and old where I'm staying now temporarily.

Remember the gold cats?

In this temporary house I'm staying at...we've got more varieties. Let's see.

Orange patches and black stripes (with hidden orange hues).

And they love to hunt pigeons together.

1st day of New Year

0 Yawns
Early morning, my family woke up to attend mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral for the New Year. The mass was celebrated with elements of the Chinese customs such as the Chinese drum beats and cymbals. Lyrics of the common New Year songs were changed into praise and worship songs. The homily was about Chinese culture of praying to the gods by various ways...which showed that human being always look for a hope in their lives. Although as Christians we're not supposed to look for other 'gods' for help and hope because we already have God in our lives, however we must constantly keep a strong faith and trust in our God to provide for our needs. Hence, instead of always looking for "cai" (wealth), it is more meaningful to look for health, joy and peace in our hearts.

But let us not 'hesitate' to say "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (wishing you a prosperous wealth) , "Hong bao na lai" (Red envelope, please!) to those who is going to give you the red packet (Hong Bao) in the hope we'll get a bigger and bigger packet year after year! hehehehehehe......

Below are some lion dance pictures which I took outside the church after the mass.

Chinese New Year in a clear blue sky...the dance troup were waiting for the people to gather around.

3 cute big cats

Half of the crowd

Yah! It jumped

A very tricky pose

Landing after a pole jump..and the coat flew. Thud!

"hei..what's this?"

Stand up straight and strettttttccccchhhhh

Say hi to the Bishop!

And here's a video of a stunt by this beautiful purple lion....

Once again, happy new year!

Wishing all my family and friends a happy and prosperous new year, may your studies and/or career be fruitful and in abundance. Wishing you all good health with peace and joy in the family.

I heard over the radio that those who are born in the year of Ox, will have a great year ahead! Those who are lucky, may you bless others who are not as lucky as you.

Xin Nian Kuai Le!

Safari land

2 Yawns
Recently, I suspected that my house's backyard has turned in to a safari land. Why? I have about six (6) mini tigers waiting for food day and night. Even when these noisy carnivours are not within the house compound, they're are in the vicinity observing, sometimes elongating their necks to see any movement in my house.

They are like these leopards.....(1)hiding behind and ready to pounce.

(Rare persian leopards...found these pics on yahoo....very cute lehhhhhhhhhhhh wish i can touch one.)

(kittens peeping through the grasses and fence)

(2)Looming and roaming freely waiting for prey

(uih...the adult look sullenly fierce....i think the cubs can only meow..hehahahaha)

(how can you ever deal with these cats????? So many and uncontrollable. And you can't even shut their mouth...NOISY!..all in few colours..either gold or black)

(3)Most outrageously, they have representative to stand guard on the watch tower, a.k.a. house fence (looking through from my neighbour's compound).

Meet Biu Biu's twin bro...he's the noisiest cat in the neighbourhood. Good at jumping and buat muka kesian.
He was there to ask whether I have any food for him but i said 'No'. Wasn't even lunch or dinner time.
Strays, but how can I not love them...cats are blessings to house..they are the decorative gems adding live to your fixated furnitures. That is why, Love Thy Cat (and the strays).
Although not all stray cats look like my beloved fat cat (previous post), but all of them are still mini tigers and deserve our love. Don't just only pamper the fatty fur ball...

Love me too, purr (Biu Biu and twin bro. Behind: Meowger)

(note: some pics taken last year...but they compose of the same cats)
