"Opposition Leader" sex scandal, really?

0 Yawns
In a country where people pretend to be religious god says this and god says that, sex scandals or at least purported sex scandals excites people or so it seems. Yes, it was amusing when Chua Soi Lek was caught with his pants down years ago leading to his resignation. But so what..he got elected to be MCA's president anyway. So anti-climax.

Now back to this "Top Opposition Leader". Seriously, don't think we're that stupid to not know who this Datuk T is implying. And seriously, who is actually following the current court case religiously? Charge of sodomy meh sodomy lah...not like I care.

Also, don't tell me one man has to be 'caught' twice (2 times!!!!) and yet never learn his lesson. If it's really true, he better start having those out of wedlock relationship in his very own house at the sight of his wife without the cameras or any recording devices. Foolproof the house with recording devices if possible.

It's amazing that some people can be so obsess with who this "Top Opposition Leader"  is sleeping with and probably the outlook of his sexual organ. *shakes head in disbelief.

Anyway, we shouldn't be interested with the new sex saga unless it comes with the video footages. I am actually waiting, if any, will be released. Censor it if needed but let us see if Datuk T (who bravely revealed himself to reporters but not the public) has a valid allegation.

Otherwise, this whole will just a miserably failed attempt to tarnish a person's image via the most condemnable dirtiest tactic.

Shaking hands a Malaysian issue?

0 Yawns
In Malaysia, whether someone wants to shake hands or not is a huge issue!

In headlines : Normala defends refusal to shake hands with men with came up because MCA (or rather Chua Soi Lek) has problems with people who refuses to shake hands. I mean......................*lost for words.

I for one believe that whether someone who shakes hands or not is not a problem. .I can accept those who refuse to shake hand as a clash of culture.  It's fair that we can't force someone to go against his/her religion or personal convictions. No problem.

Not shaking hand is good simply because we don't have to touch anyone's hand who just sneezed, dug his nose, scratched his body, removed a wedgie etc..Even better because girls doesn't have to touch any hamsap hands belonging to those who shake hands just to see whether we have applied enough lotions.

But I will still shake hands lah..just to show I'm pleased to meet the person. And I promise to keep my hands clean when doing so.

AirAsia ripping us off again

3 Yawns
Previously they decided to charge us for convenience fee although it's just plain logical to use credit cards to purchase tickets online. Now they want to charge us for checking in at the counters. Read here

What the hell, Tony?!

If I go holiday, say to Cambodia, how are you expecting me to go online to check in and print out that boarding pass? Hey hey!!! This is not right. More so to rip us AFTER all those promos.

This is really unethical. Ok, when has AirAsia been ethical anyway?

Soon they'll be charging to use the stairs to board and disembark the flight and to use the umbrella when raining.

Malaysian Patriotism

0 Yawns
It is revealed our Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is quite eccentric when he said that the "lack of patriotism" is the reason for low number of non-Malays to join the arm forces. Read here.

WOW

One pertinent question before I continue : How is one's career choice determines his patriotism?
Next question is : How do we measure patriotism?
Next next question is : What is patriotism?

Next following the next question : If patriotism is measured by joining the arm forces, should we, Malaysians of all races, religion, age and gender sign up to join the arm forces so that we can show our patriotism?

You know, I think it's kinda cool to have the whole country of armies. It must be cool to stay and work in the barracks and to free ourselves from bread and butter issues (because the government is going to pay our salaries). It'll be so cool that day in day out we'll only have to wait for war befalling on our country (God forbid!). If the imagined enemies fail to show up at our shores, fret not. We'll  just head home after 5.30pm to catch up some drama series from Astro.

Good Malaysians needless be perplexed on this issue. Time is better spent in planning for your holidays after purchasing that free seat from AirAsia.

Don't ever get sick!!

2 Yawns
If possible, don't ever get sick! This is something I discovered in Facebook which is shocking and worth worrying. Read the wall post by Robiatul Akhma Mohammad.

This is what she posted:

Robiatul Akhma Mohamad kayu api dalam neraka esok2 ni...tapi sedeh fikirkan sape la mak ayah dia ni...lahirkan ank yang......hati penuh ngan titik hitam dah ni...if kata ape2 pom kompem xjalan ni..patutnyer bila dia sakit bagi injection KCL trus,.bia jantung dia xhidup..xlayak bernafas kt bumi ALLAH SWT ni..nauzubillah..

Thursday at 01:17 · Flag

A nurse suggesting to inject KCL to some guy named "Kafir Bangga" for insulting Islam. A NURSE??!!!

I'm kind enough to paint over their eyes. But I think this is not a joke matter for a nurse, trainee or even someone in the medical profession to say such things. She may have directed it at Kafir Bangga only, but hey, it's still ethically and morally wrong to say such things. It shows that she may someday abuse her position as a nurse to KCL anyone who stepped on her precious tail. Gosh, I'm taking a risk here against the entire nursing profession or anyone in the medical profession who thinks like her. Dangerous wei!!

In case you're wondering who Kafir Bangga is, please read here.

To know what KCL is, please read here and here.

"KCl is used in medicine, scientific applications, food processing and in judicial execution through lethal injection."

"The intravenous injection is usually a sequence of drugs given in a set sequence, designed to first induce unconsciousness followed by death through paralysis of respiratory muscles and/or by cardiac arrest through depolarization of cardiac muscle cells. The execution of the condemned in most states involves three separate injections (in sequential order):

  1. Sodium thiopental: ultra-short action barbiturate, an anaesthetic agent capable of rendering the prisoner unconscious in a few seconds.
  2. Pancuronium: non-depolarizing muscle relaxant, causes complete, fast and sustained paralysis of the skeletal striated muscles, including the diaphragm and the rest of the respiratory muscles; this would eventually cause death by asphyxiation.
  3. Potassium chloride: stops the heart, and thus causes death by cardiac arrest."

OMG.

Yo, yo #yorais

2 Yawns
I don't know how I should contain my laughter when the twitter space welcomed a new hashtag addition - #yorais to 'celebrate' our minister infamous announcement to discourage fellow Malaysians (especially Muslims) to immerse in the internet culture. Read here.

"He added that facilities like internet could not be accepted wholly because it was a form of business introduced by the West and "Malaysians were just users."

"They are just selling Facebook, Twitter, L-Band and various other services, even through space, as a product but we do not do such business. We accept all this in a state of cultural shock," he said.

-------------------------------------------

Is our dear minister of the misinformed jealous of other people's developments?

After reading my friend's blog about it, I decided to check out the tweets myself and found these tweets:-

#yorais so ancient, when Julius Caesar was assassinated, he amended Caesar's last words "Et tu, Brute?" to "Itu... puteh?"

not sure who is uncivilised... us or the ancient #yorais

Politicians divide their time between running for office and running for cover.#yorais

#yorais: Boss sokong Twit2 ni? Adik.tangkap burung2 merpati cepattt! Memo kte mesti ikut orang2 gila ni di Twttr skrng

Someone didn't got the memo on social media sites? PM wants to further connect with FB and Twitter fans

#yorais will say that "Catholicism is not our culture"

#yorais what exactly the country's aspirations again?

Sifat KeMalaysiaan perlu kuat untuk pakai Facebook dan Twitter. - Rais Yatim. Bwahahahahahaha!! *out of breath* #dinorais

”Women travelling aboard should produce letter of consent from parents or employers. ” #dinorais

I think #dinorais is in a state of culture shock, but tries to cover up by saying"we", same as the excuse "some" people will get confused :p

and the most hilarious of all

Wake up call to Sabah lawmakers who are also lawyers

2 Yawns
I was at the Long Call at High Court 2, KK yesterday because I was applying for a Part Exemption. And I had the opportunity to witness this event which made to our local Daily Express's headlines today. (I'm quoting from Daily Express directly as its website loads slower than the snail). Read on.

Legal profession precedent

Kota Kinabalu: The definition of who can practise law in Sabah saw a historic precedent being set Wednesday when the High Court here granted an application for admission by a 27-year-old Sabah-born as an advocate of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak.

Judge Datuk Clement Skinner said the applicant, Wendy Chan Poh Lu, whose father is a Bruneian and mother a West Malaysian, is qualified to practise in the State because of her birth in Sabah, thus dismissing objections from a senior lawyer.
"I therefore dismiss the objection because by virtue of her birth in Sabah, she is deemed to have Sabah connections which is the sole criteria for admission as an advocate to the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak," he said.
................
Counsel Puan Sri Marina Tiu, in proceeding with the objection from counsel Christina Liew, who was not robed and therefore could not appear before the court, contested that the applicant although born in Sabah is not entitled to a Malaysian citizenship and, therefore, not a Sabahan in particular.

"The petitioner's father is a Bruneian and not a Malaysian while the mother is a West Malaysian. Therefore, under the immigration law, the petitioner is in fact not entitled to a Malaysian citizenship, in general, and she is not a Sabahan in particular," said Tiu.
She argued that under the Advocates Ordinance, a person must have Sabah connection in order to qualify for admission to the Bar in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak.
She also said the constitution provides as to who can stay and work in Sabah, and the fact of the person being born in the State alone should not qualify the person under sub-section (2)(a) of the Advocates Ordinance.
Tiu submitted that the objection is to protect the integrity of the Bar and to prevent fly-by-night lawyers from coming in to practise in Sabah but residing outside Sabah.
"If this petition were allowed, it would create a dangerous precedent which would allow non-citizens to apply and to be admitted to the Bar. In theory, even the children of the holders of the IMM13 document (which gives the holder a refugee status and gives the holder the right to stay and work) to apply and be admitted to the Bar.
"It's a matter of public concern because even an illegal immigrant who is born here and we have millions of immigrants here who can qualify under paragraph (2)(a) provided he also satisfies the other requirement in the Ordinance," said Tiu.
Meanwhile, Sabah Law Association President Datuk John Sikayun stated that they did not object to the application because on paper the applicant had complied with the requirements under the Advocates Ordinance that she was born in Sabah. Sikayun acknowledged the applicant is a holder of a Sabah identity card. But he expressed concern that the Advocates Ordinance is outdated and that it needs to be amended.
................................

Under Section 2 of the Ordinance, a person can only have Sabah connections if the person is born in Sabah, has been ordinarily resident in Sabah for a continuous period of five years or satisfies the Chief Judge that here or she is at the time of the application domiciled in Sabah.
In responding to Sikayun's submission, Skinner said the Sabah Advocates Ordinance was enacted in 1953 when it could not have been foreseen the problems which have been highlighted during the hearing of the present objection.
However, Skinner said: "It is my view that the remedy does not lie in this court but in the legislative process."
He earlier said that it is expressly stated in Section 2(2) of the Ordinance that a person "shall be deemed" to have Sabah connections if that person satisfies any of the three conditions.
"With this deeming provision, as the law stands at the moment, once a person is born in Sabah, he or she is deemed to have Sabah connections.
That is a statutory deeming and I see no further requirement that the person must go on further to prove that he or she is entitled to Malaysian citizenship.
"As far as being admitted to the Sabah Bar is concerned, once it is deemed that a person has Sabah connections, the requirement of Section 2 (2) have been satisfied," said Skinner.

-end of quote-

oooHHH wowow.....
Now it seems like becoming a lawyer in Sabah is not so difficult afterall.
There's actually 3 different criteria to established a Sabah Connection; you either have to be born in Sabah, stayed in Sabah for continuous period of 5 years OR domiciled in Sabah.

The decision above does have great impacts. You see, we had LOADS of illegal immigrants in Sabah since 1970s. The lucky ones managed to somehow obtain a blue IC. The not so lucky one continued to stay illegally and gave births in Sabah. So these children of the illegal immigrants are indeed Sabah born. So what if they are not Malaysians. There's no requirement in the Advocates Ordinance to say that lawyers in Sabah must be a Malaysian. Section 2(a) of the Advocate Ordinance provides that "A person shall be deemed to have Sabah connections for the purposes of this Ordinance if, and only if, he - "has been born in Sabah". Satisfying the remaining to criteria is even easier for them, although its not necessary.

Perhaps lawyers in Sabah who are also politicians can do something in the August House.

Otherwise, when this profession which most senior lawyers of Sabah is trying to protect is being 'diluted', you have no one to blame except:-
1. The judge who has set this precedent;
2. Sabah politicians;
3. Member of the Bar; and/or
4. Yourself.

With the Federal Government pressuring the Sabah Bar to open up their legal profession, this task is not easy.

Power cut more frequent in Sabah

3 Yawns
Actually Namewee's infamous TNB video was posted some time ago. Only now the government has discovered it. Slow, right?

Read also TheStar here

Oh well, I must add one more thing. I believe West Malaysia's power supply is a lot better than Sabah's counterpart. But really, power cut is damn irritating when you are in the midst of something urgent.

This was what happened on a fine Monday afternoon when I was to finish a submission with my boss due the next day. To everyone's dismay, there was a power cut at Jalan Pantai, Kota Kinabalu for 2 1/2 hours! We finally finished our work in the office at only around 2 am. If there wasn't a power cut, all of us (including the support staffs) could have gone back by 11 pm.

Would you still be complaining politely then?

Perhaps SESB and it's independent power suppliers should also apologize to us Sabahans? In the month of October and November, I've endured 5 power cuts; 3 at the office and 2 at home.

Make sure this Gas-powered plant is not second hand!

Convenience fee

0 Yawns
I wonder, what is the purpose of Airasia's convenience fee charged on credit cards and debit cards when purchasing its air tickets online. I believe this fee was not being charged previously and only implemented recently.

I wonder, I wonder!

It's RM5 per way per person. For a round trip, you'll need to pay another RM10 just because you used your credit card.

If 4 person is booking at the same time for a round trip, then expect to pay a total of RM40 for its so-called convenience fee.

As a consumer, I don't find this convenient at all!

"Datuk" ?

0 Yawns
Datuk Shah Rukh Khan? Read here.

Even Amber Chia hasn't got it and Michelle Yeoh took years to get it.

I still remember the movie Finding Mr.Perfect (2003) acted by Shu Qi, Simon Yam and Andy On were shot in Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu and some beautiful island nearby. I'm sure Sabah's tourism (or at least Sutera Harbour's business) must have improved during that time. Yet, they were not conferred any Datukship until now.

Funny...funny.. *shakes head in disbelief.

Was anyone late for exam?

1 Yawns
Luckily yesterday's KL morning road block did not affect me as I left my house at 6.15am.

Otherwise..I'll be late for the exam! I saw the massive jam from PJ in the Federal Highway at 6.30am, goodness, so much hardwork of getting up early and try to get to work on time for these normal citizens. They thought they could beat the jam but instead, the jam beats them --"Wake up earlier next time!!".

If I happen to get stuck in that jam, all my hardwork poured in during these few months will go into the waste of roadblocks . I'd probably scream my soul out.

Such scary thoughts.

(un)married and divorce

3 Yawns
Today a an absurd news caught my attention. It's a case of a wife seeking annulment of marriage. Now she can't proceed with the annulment proceeding because the marriage is not properly registered. So how?

This judge told the husband to register the marriage again and obtain a genuine certificate before seeking annulment.

I AM dumbfounded!

Yes, I know it's the only way the wife can get some maintenance and support for herself and her kids. But to think of registering a marriage and seek an annulment again....erm...i have nothing to say.

Breaking news....(it will break) Fuel hike RM0.78 less than 24 hours notice

0 Yawns
So petrol price will increase to RM2.70 per littre with effect from 12am today. RM2.70!!! Crazy meh...

After this, not only petrol price will increase but everything else except salary.

Just now, I bought one packet of nasi lemak near college with a price of RM2.30. Last month (barely few days ago) was RM2 per packet.

Today's double boil soup at the shop cost RM4 per bowl while last month was RM3.80. I heard a bag of 10kg rice now cost about RM58! Hey....I think i'll have to reduce portion of my meal (my current portion is small enough), and probably 2 meals a day. Nevermind going hungry.

Just when I thought of switching to induction cooker and other electrical appliance, another jolt came when Tenaga Nasional will increase price of electricity by 18%. So brace up people! Start eating raw food people.....at least salad is not too bad, add some mayo for carbs!
It's good to start your own mini farm at home by planting vege and fruits. I wonder if a small plot at home to plant paddy will work. But rearing chickens at home is no-no:-
(1) the chicken shit smells
(2) Tedious for working adults
(3) Can you eat your own 'pet'?

Perhaps the government should spend more to invest on solar power. Afterall, Malaysia is blessed with ample sunlight throughout the year (except when it thunderstorms). So, I plead for government to put aside the astronout programme for a while.

Encourage citizens to cycle is not too bad. But Prime Minister and his Deputy should take the lead. But THANKS LAH PRIME MINISTER TO ANNOUNCE THE PETROL HIKE AT THE 11th HOUR! It was so much fun being stuck at the jam.

At around 8.30pm, petrol is sold out in most KL stations.

Abolishing CLP

5 Yawns

Surely our new Law Minister is the man! The thousand cries of students having to endure this nightmarish exam have finally been heard (including me). It was stated that the the Common Bar Course / Examination is in the final stages of introduction, which means.....it doesn't really affect me now unless i'll be failing CLP (Certificate of Legal Practice) 2-3 times before CBC comes into full force.

So today's agenda is still in status quo: STUDY HARD and Harder...

But i hope that we'll be the last batch for CLP because if any of us fail it, at least we still have the CBC. For your information, the passing rate for CLP examinations has always been around 20% and most who failed do not know why they fail. Further, nowhere in our subject guide or any as such mentioned about passing marks and grading system.

At least our Law Minister bother into looking at this problem. Thank you..now I'm trying to pass CLP in 1 sitting. Hopefully I'll only have to experience CBC from the 'bird's eye view'. It'll be exciting to see my juniors going for this new course ( maybe i will too, but then...I'm desperate to pass it in 1 sitting).

What competition is this??????

0 Yawns
Well, we all can have all kinds of competitions as a sport or recreation such as swimming, debates, cleanest class, best actors etc etc. Competitions are meant to improve a person, to see where he stands, to foster good relationships in the community and to invest in new ideas. I always like a little bit of competition once a while....even healthy competition between friends in achieving the best results for studies. It's the way that we can be motivated to move further in our current position.

BUT, have you ever imagine a dog hunting competition organized by some municipal council in Malaysia? It's not even hunting of special dogs to show to the world some rare species of dogs or anything of whatsoever. I came across of this wild idea from a blog, and now all of you should see this!

exerpt:

3. Tangkapan dilaksanakan tanpa menjejaskan undang-undang Kecil 10(2)(a) Undang-undang Kecil Pelesenan Anjing dan Rumah Pembiakan Anjing (Majlis Perbandaran Selayang) 2005.

4. Tangkapan hendaklah diserahkan hidup-hidup kepada urus setia pertandingan untuk pengiraan/audit. Gambar setiap ekor tangkapan juga hendaklah dikemukakan sebagai bukti tangkapan.

5. Pertandingan akan berjalan sepanjang masa.

6. projek yang bernilai seperti ketetapan yang berikut : (amount of prized money)

Majlis Perbandaran Selayang is organizing this auspicious competition for some prized money.....
Sad, I feel sad for the dogs....(eventhough i'm a cat lover).

What?!!Carrefour and Tesco spoiled the Potter mood?

2 Yawns
http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/7/21/nation/18369076&sec=nation
http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Saturday/National/20070721083143/Article/index_html

Is it destruction of a marketing strategy, hype, excitement, atmosphere etc? Im shocked to see the difference in the price but couldn't help feeling dissapointed that 4 major bookstore chains are not selling the book on the date itself! It's the final book and yet there's no one can line up to buy it. Now the craze shift to hypermarkets instead of bookstores. What a place to snuggle up and enjoy a book (Harry Potter only).

When I woke up in the morning, I thought i can enjoy the news of people excitedly to the bookstores and get their first edition (with free breakfast I heard). Mind you, it's the only time where people will be going head over heels for a book....(at least we don't see it for other books). Just like few years ago where people were lining up in the wee hours in the morning to get McDonald's Hello Kitty and the Bear.

Now, it feels as though Christmas is cancelled. (actually, i'm just sitting at home).
More later...

Latest update from KL ----> Tesco, Carrefour etc are having heavy traffic jams today. Looks like consumers nowadays don't buy into fringe benefits. Book readers might have 'betrayed' the 4 major bookstores, but hey, they're just making the most out of their money, especially with major 'erection' in the price of goods. From petrol to milo ais, and now rice, next will be income tax! Hypermarts might make some loss from selling the book at an incredibly low price, but they'll earn huge from groceries. Great, now everyone benefits. Parents will shop for their stuff, while the kids to line up and grab the books. Safe time, safe cost.

Malaysia memang boleh! Things like this can happen at the last minute. It's really shameful to the book nerdy community like me. Long live MPH! Penguin doesn't seem to be bothered, for at least they have pocketed the proceeds from Tesco and Carrefour.
